Naturally, you want to bring your four-footed family member with you and central Colorado is more than happy that you should. The following is information you'll need in advance.
- Some lodging facilities are open to pets and some aren't. When booking, don't forget to inquire about pet policies.
- Most trails require dogs to be leashed or at least under close voice command. Please be respectful of other people and animals. Always clean up after your canine.
- Most public parks are open to dogs, provided they are kept leashed and you clean up after them, but Salida's Riverside Park is not.
- The River Park in Buena Vista requires that dogs be on leash until you cross the Barbara Whipple Bridge. On the trails beyond the bridge, if you unleash your dog, keep it close to you.
- The Buena Vista Rodeo Grounds is a large designated off-leash area. Take Gregg Drive west, crossing CR 321.
- Collect local veterinarian information before you arrive and bring your pets medical records with you. Being prepared in advance can save a world of trouble during an emergency.
